Pennsylvania Commission On Crime And Delinquency Annual Statewide Pathways Conference

Penn Stater Conference Center, University Park, PA, November 19-21, 2003

This week was one of the highlights of Dora’s career. Her efforts were highlighted during this statewide conference in the following ways:

1. Honored with the Fifth Annual PA Governor’s Pathfinder Award for Survivor/Activist for my activism on behalf of victims of domestic and sexual violence.

2. Honored with a Citation of Congratulations from the Pennsylvania Senate for my activism and community development efforts that benefit PA residents.

3. Honored with the world premiere of One Woman’s Voice of Kate Bogle’s documentary short film about Dora’s combined roles of poet, activist, and performer.

4. Honored to address the entire conference attendance with her keynote presentation: From Survivorship to Leadership, integrating the address of domestic and sexual violence efforts with performance of her original poems from her first collection, the scorched earth. Followed by a book, compact disc, poster and documentary signing.

Invited to join performance and Slam poets from around the country in the opening segment of the National Poetry SLAM Finals show to honor the father of Slam, Marc Kelly Smith, at Navy Pier, Chicago, IL.

Race Matters, WORDSTOCK: State College, PA’s Annual Festival of Language

Webster’s Warehouse, South Allen Street, July 6 2003 – 6:00pm

Co-organized and developed a 2-hour community interaction event to explore race, identity and dialogue, including a performance of composite pieces including poetry, statistics, newspaper accounts, and writing with performance artist Gabriel Washington.
