One Billion Rising Flash Mob Dance for Justice

ONE BILLION RISING was the global effort designed by Even Ensler, playwright of The Vagina Monologues and founder of the international VDAY organization, to join one billion people in 207 countries in a dance uprising to demand an end to violence against women and girls on February 14, 2013. Dora participated in the ONE BILLION RISING, TAOS, NM event, as one of the 4 people interviewed for the program of music and testimony addressing violence that was played during the dance and community gathering and helped to promote the event on local radio.

Dora is pictured here at the Taos One Billion Rising, in pink, because it is her mother’s favorite color. Dora wanted to honor her mother, who is also a survivor of violence. And the red shawl is actually an Indian wedding sari lent to Dora to celebrate one billion women rising to dance together on Valentine’s Day in a joyful declaration of ending the violence that far too many of us have known.
